Total trading volume on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange down

The aggregate trading volume on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) has decreased by 22 percent since early 2018, compared to the same period of 2017, Kazakh media reported on Sept. 24.

According to the results of August 2018, trades on KASE finished with a total traded volume of 9.6 trillion tenges, which is 5.6 percent less compared to the same period of 2017.

The reduction in volumes was mainly in the money market, where 80.7 percent of the trading volume is concentrated. In this market, the reduction was 9.2 percent (a decrease from 8.6 to 7.8 trillion tenges).

At the same time, there was volume growth in the rest of the markets. At the securities market - 451 billion tenges (+45.8 percent), foreign currencies - 1.4 trillion tenges (an increase of 6 percent).

The aggregate share of the securities market and foreign currency was 19.3 percent (1.9 trillion tenges) of the total trading volume.

The volume of trading in August turned out to be lower than the volume of the previous year (for the first time in five years) - 10.2 trillion tenges.

The main index of the stock market - KASE Index - against the background of external negative factors is declining for the third month in a row. Decrease in the index from its local maximum was 12.1 percent at the end of August.
