Kazakhstan to export transformers to Turkmenistan

Kazakhstan will export transformers manufactured at the Aktau Transformer Plant to Turkmenistan.

More than 50 percent of the output of the Aktau Transformer Plant, an enterprise belonging to the Alageum Electric holding company, will be shipped to a neighboring country, according to the Kazakh Union of Manufacturing Industries.

It is noted that the main product of the company - power transformers of 6-10 kW voltage class - is already in demand in Turkmenistan.

This is due to the implementation of the “Concept for the Development of the Electricity Industry for 2013-2020” in Turkmenistan. It has become the largest investment project as more than $ 5 billion is envisaged for the development of the power industry until 2020.

Within the framework of this program, it is planned to build six new power stations and switch to a combined management at existing gas turbine stations, which will increase the power capacity without additional natural gas production.

Turkmenistan intends to expand the opportunities for electricity exports, bring electricity to a new technological level, improve the manageability and reliability of electric grids through the use of modern technologies. At the same time, the process of renovation of power grids in rural areas is underway.

In addition, experts predict that by 2020, the level of domestic electricity consumption in Turkmenistan will be 20.2 billion kWh. But the large-scale project has faced a number of problems. It turned out that there are practically no enterprises for producing transformers in Turkmenistan.

Aktau Transformer Plant is the only company operating in the Caspian Sea on the production of transformers, switchboard equipment and components. It was launched in 2015 as part of the State Program for Industrial and Innovative Development. The cost of the project amounted to 2 billion tenge, the number of permanent workers - 150 people.

The plant is designed for the production of 4,000 transformer substations (20 units daily). After the plant reaches its designed capacity, the annual volume of the enterprise in monetary terms will be 6 billion tenge.
