President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev plans to visit France this year, a source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan told Kun.uz.

The visit is expected to take place this summer. Its exact date is not yet known.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdujabar Abduvakhitov commented to Kun.uz on the possible visit of the head of state.

"We are planning a visit related to France. I think information about this can be disclosed. We are working on preparation of the visit," Abduvakhitov said.

He added that several more foreign trips of the president of Uzbekistan are planned. "Several more visits of Shavkat Mirziyoyev abroad are planned for this year," the deputy minister added.

In September last year, the French leader Emmanuel Macron sent Mirziyoyev congratulations on the occasion of Independence Day, in which Macron invited Mirziyoyev to visit France.

In the entire history of relations between the two countries, only three visits were made at the level of heads of state. The first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited France twice, in 1993 and 1996. In 1994, President Francois Mitterrand of France paid a visit to Uzbekistan.

France is one of the important trade partners of Uzbekistan in Europe. In 2017, the volume of bilateral trade amounted to $251.6 million.
