Uzbekistan happy with strengthening strategic partnership with Russia: Mirziyoyev

Uzbekistan is satisfied with consistent strengthening of the Uzbek-Russian strategic partnership, as well as with high dynamics of development of practical cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, the press service of the Uzbek president stated quoting Shavkat Mirziyoyev as saying on May 22 at a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu, who is on an official visit in Tashkent.

The sides noted intensification of contacts between agencies, regions and businesses of the two countries, joint implementation of promising programs and cooperation projects in economy and social sectors, fruitful cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere.

During the meeting, the sides considered further expansion of military and technical cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia, including close interdepartmental partnership, holding bilateral events, training military personnel etc.

Mirziyoyev and Shoygu also exchanged views on the relevant aspects of international politics and the regional agenda.

The Russian defense minister expressed support for large-scale reforms in the republic to modernize the armed forces and strengthen the country's defense capability, and highly appreciated Uzbekistan's initiatives to ensure regional security, stability and sustainable development.

Shoygu emphasized readiness of the Russian side to further expand and deepen the full-scale and mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of the two nations.
