New government of Kyrgyzstan take oath
By Ali Mustafayev
The new government of Kyrgyzstan under the leadership of Prime Minister Sapar Isakov took the oath in the presence of President Almazbek Atambayev on September 7.
The government was replaced after Sooronbai Jeenbekov left office because of his participation in the presidential elections. Isakov was elected as Prime Minister by the Kyrgyz Parliament on August 26, 2017.
The first oath was traditionally brought by the head of the Cabinet Sapar Isakov. He is sworn to serve all the members of the government for the benefit of Kyrgyzstan.
Later, the vow to serve for the benefit of the country was given by Isakov’s deputies Tolkunbek Abdilgulov, Temir Djumakadirov, Duyshenbek Zilaliyev and other members of the Cabinet of Ministers.
The newly elected government functions since August. Almost all of the key members of the Cabinet of Ministers remained in their positions.
The presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan will be held on October 15, and the process of intensive preparation continues. The number of candidates currently running for the office is 13.
Although the election was originally scheduled for the November 19, the opposition lawmakers in the Supreme Council demanded to move the date in order to have enough time in case of the second round of voting, since Atambayev’s term expires on December 1.
According to the 2010 constitution of Kyrgyzstan, the President is elected by the two-round system. The presidential term is extended to 6 years, but re-election is barred.
