Palestinian embassy opens in Ashgabat

Palestine’s embassy was officially inaugurated in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary reported on November 16.

The opening of the embassy ​​reflects the mutual understanding and trust between Turkmenistan and Palestine, the message reads.

“The opening of the embassy was an important action towards the practical implementation of interstate agreements aimed at ensuring all possibilities for effective interaction on a wide range of bilateral cooperation,” the message said.

Palestine’s President Mahmoud Abbas paid an official visit to Turkmenistan November 13-15. The bilateral documents were signed following the high-level talks.

The presidents of two countries signed Joint Statement, while the relevant agencies signed the following documents: the Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the State of Palestine on Economic Cooperation, Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the State of Palestine on Cooperation in Tourism, Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan and the Agency of investment Development of Palestine, Memorandum of Understanding between the Trade and Industrial Chamber of Turkmenistan and the Trade Chamber of the State of Palestine.

During the talks, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov assured his Palestinian counterpart that the Turkmen side will create all necessary conditions for the embassy’s activity.

Moreover, the Turkmen president proposed to hold the Turkmen-Palestinian business forum in 2017.

The two countries will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in April 2017.

Diplomatic relations between two countries were established on April 17, 1992. Turkmenistan and Palestine actively cooperate under the United Nations Organization and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The delegation of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry made working visit to Palestine city of Ramallah this May. The cooperation program for 2016-2017 was signed during that visit.
