Kyrgyzstan preparing to shift to parliamentary system
By Trend
Kyrgyzstan is preparing to shift from the
presidential-parliamentary form of governance to a parliamentary
system in the near future, RIA Novosti quoted country’s President
Almazbek Atambayev as saying in Tbilisi on October 13.
The Kyrgyz president arrived in Georgia on October 12 for a two-day
visit.
Atambayev pointed out that the democratic reforms held by Georgia
in recent decades are close to Kyrgyzstan as well.
Earlier, led by Kyrgyzstan’s president, a number of parties
represented in the parliament, put forward an initiative to amend
the country’s current constitution which was adopted in the
referendum after the coup in 2010.
The initiators propose to strengthen the powers of the country’s
prime minister and allow combining the position of the prime
minister, or deputy prime minister with MP activities.
Currently, the draft law on holding a referendum is under
consideration in Kyrgyzstan’s parliament. The referendum may be
held on December 11.
