Erdogan: Turkey, Russia negotiating on Aleppo ceasefire
By Gunay Hasanova
Turkey and Russia are holding talks to achieve a ceasefire in Syria’s Aleppo, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during the G20 summit, TRT Haber reported on September 5.
The Turkish president added that achieving a ceasefire in Aleppo is one of the most important issues for Turkey and Russia.
“Ankara hopes a ceasefire will be achieved in Aleppo next week,” Erdogan said.
Previously, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that different issues were discussed by Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of G20 summit, including Syrian issue and issues of bilateral relations.
The president further said that Turkey will continue rendering humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees.
Erdogan pointed out that the Syrian refugee problem is not only Ankara’s problem, but unfortunately, a number of countries failed the humanity exam.
Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed over 500,000 lives.
Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops. The “Islamic State” (IS, ISIL, ISIS or Daesh), the YPG and the PYD are the most active terrorist groups in Syria.
