PM: Akinci military base in Turkey to shut down
By Gunay Hasanova
The Akinci military base near Ankara, which served as the de-facto headquarters for attempted coup plotters, will shut down.
Turkey's Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that all units that housed the coup plotters' military equipment would also be closed down, TRT Haber Chanel reported on Friday.
"The time of military coups was left behind long ago in Turkey," said Yildirim.
"Akinci base, which nested the traitors, will be closed and we will turn it into a place for our martyrs who died for democracy during the coup attempt," Yildirim said.
He also noted that Gulen, who is directly involved in the military coup attempt, will be extradited from the United States.
Yildirim stressed that Gulen's terrorist organization tried to break the national unity of the country through a military coup.
On July 15 evening, Turkish authorities said a military coup attempt took place in the country. The government prevented the attempt making the rebelling servicemen surrender July 16. At least 246 people were reported died and thousands were wounded as a result of failed coup.
Following the bloody events President Recep Tayyib Erdogan declared a three-month state of emergency in Turkey on July 20.
