China, Turkmenistan intend to intensify partnership

China and Turkmenistan intend to intensify their long-term partnership covering a wide range of issues focusing on interstate cooperation.

Following an official visit of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Beijing on November 11-12, the sides discussed dozens of important joint projects, which will be implemented under a balanced model of interaction.

Among such projects is the laying of the Turkmenistan-China transnational gas pipeline, ensuring the long-term supplies of Turkmen gas to China.

The Turkmen government said that Chinese companies expressed their interest in strengthening of their positions on the promising Turkmen market and actively develop trade and economic ties.

Chinese businessmen are taking an active part in the ongoing large-scale investment projects. Among the planned projects is the construction of important industrial and social facilities, in particular as part of the integrated development of the largest gas field in Turkmenistan - Galkynysh.

During the talks, the Chinese Engineering Corporation CAM discussed projects on construction and reconstruction of the railroad car repair plant in the Serdar town.

There was also discussed the possibilities of constructing the plant for repair of railway carriages in Turkmenistan.

China Sinopharm International Corporation, specializing in the export and import of pharmaceutical products, and Jiangsu Guotai Int'l Group Hengyuan Investment Development Co. Ltd., operating in the sphere of investments, financial sector, trade, real estate, and hotel business, expressed interest in the implementation of a project to build a modern plant for producing thick liquorice extract.

The plans for supplying computer equipment to Turkmenistan were also discussed with the representatives of Lenovo Group Limited and Forever Wise Limited.

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. presented several new offers to the Turkmen delegation, particularly for cooperation in the oil and gas, railway, and education sectors.

Discussions were also held on projects for the installation of SCADA and communication systems at the East-West Pipeline, an e-education project financed through a Chinese government grant, and a plan on imparting trainings to education specialists as part of a Huawei program titled "Telecom Seeds for the Future."

The talks with Jiangsu Guotai Int’l Group Hengyuan Investment Development Co. Ltd. covered partnership in municipal construction and the execution of large-scale cultural events.

The issues related to the establishment of joint wholesale markets in Turkmenistan and China on the sale of consumer goods as well as the construction of a plant for processing goat's wool and knitted products were discussed with Qinghai Cashmere Industrial Group Co. Ltd.

Other promising areas to establish partnerships in the fields of advanced technologies, industry, and electronics were discussed with the China Precision Machinery Import-Export Corporation (CPMIEC), China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO), and CETC International Ltd.

China is the biggest trade and economic partner of Turkmenistan and it is ready to increase the volumes of products imported from Turkmenistan.
