70m tons of oil pumped via BTC pipeline so far
70 million tons of oil have been transported so far through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline that exports Azerbaijan`s crude to world markets. 650 tankers filled with oil have been dispatched from the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan since the pipeline opened in June 2006, according to the BOTAS International Limited (BIL) company, which operates the conduit`s Turkish section.
Salih Pasaoglu, BIL`s President and Board Chairman, said the company is ensuring the delivery of crude to Ceyhan from the Ardahan and Gars regions despite inclement weather conditions, which is evidence that BIL is fully complying with its obligations.
The 1,768 km BTC pipeline pumps oil produced from Azerbaijan`s Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) fields in the Caspian Sea to Ceyhan through Georgia.
Britain`s BP Plc owns 30.1 percent of BTC, while Azeri state oil company SOCAR holds 25 percent. Other shareholders include US giants Chevron and ConocoPhillips, Norway`s StatoilHydro, Italy`s ENI and France`s Total.
