Azerbaijan vows to ensure Georgia`s long-term gas supplies
Azerbaijan will ensure Georgia`s natural gas supplies over the next five years, Rovnag Abdullayev, president of the state oil company SOCAR, told reporters.
Abdullayev said the two South Caucasus republics have signed a memorandum and a contract on the sales and purchases of gas based on that agreement.
The SOCAR president said Azerbaijan will export 452 million cubic meters of gas to Georgia in 2009, but he did not elaborate on the price.
He emphasized that if the need arises, additional gas may be delivered to the neighboring country, as well. "If our reserves allow this, we will sell additional gas to Georgia on commercial terms."
Abdullayev emphasized that 29 Georgian gas sales networks are currently operated by SOCAR. By the end of 2010, the Azerbaijani company will be involved in 85% of all gas sales in Georgia, he added.
