Fire on oil well claims no lives
A fire that broke out Saturday evening at an oil
well on an onshore oil field in Azerbaijan`s Salyan district did
not result in any casualties. However, equipment being used to shut
down the well was damaged, an oil industry source said.
The well was recently transferred to Azerbaijan`s state oil company, SOCAR, for disposal by the Salyan Oil operating company, which is developing the Kursangi-Garabaghly field.
While SOCAR was disposing of the well, an increase in pressure forced gas from the well, igniting a fire.
"In such cases, usually, if the well catches fire, no measures are taken to put it out. The blaze dies down itself within two to three days," an industry expert said. Officials noted that the accident did not affect Salyan`s oil production. Average output from Kursangi-Garabaghly is currently 850 tons per day.
