Output suspended at another BP-operated platform
Production has been suspended at the West Azeri platform in Azerbaijan`s major Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil fields in the Caspian Sea. The action follows last Wednesday`s halt of output at another offshore platform due to a gas leak, the project operator, BP Azerbaijan, said.
So far, the suspension of production at two platforms has not noticeably affected transporting crude through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan main oil export pipeline, which pumps oil produced at ACG to the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan. The impact of the measure will depend upon how long the suspension lasts, the company said.
Production currently continues at the East Azeri platform, and the oil produced there is being delivered to shore by alternative means.
Following the accident on the Central Azeri platform, drillers and other employees of the company were evacuated to safety aboard boats to prevent human casualties. Immediately after the accident, work on the platform was suspended and the situation brought under control, the spokesperson for BP Azerbaijan, Tamam Bayatly, said.
