SOCAR to transfer communication infrastructure for new processing complex
By Aynur Jafarova
Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR has commenced work to transfer existing communications infrastructure for the new oil and gas processing complex (OGPC) which will be constructed in 60 kilometers of Baku, SOCAR said on December 11.
Around 4,200 hectares has been allocated for the construction of a new complex that will be located in the Garadagh district of Baku and the country's Absheron region.
Work is underway with relevant agencies to design transference of telephone and power transmission lines, as well as gas and water pipelines.
The new facilities will be built after dismantling of the current production enterprises, particularly oil refineries.
The Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery will stop working after the commissioning of a refinery in the new complex, which SOCAR has been scheduled for 2023-2025.
The construction of a new complex will cost $17 billion, including interest on bank loans. The complex consists of a petrochemical enterprise with a capacity of 1.7 million tons of finished products, an oil refinery with a capacity of 10 million tons per year, and a gas-processing plant with a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters per year.
The depth of oil processing at the plant will be about 95 percent, and the yield of light oil products will be 85 percent.
A thermal power plant with a capacity of 250 megawatts will also be built as part of the new complex.
