Iran increases LPG prices by 16 percent
Iran's Organization for the Protection of Consumers and
Producers (POCP) has increased
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sell prices by 16 percent, Mehr news
agency reported.
The prices increased by 16 percent on each gas cylinder (of
various sizes), while the basic purchase prices remained
unchanged.
According to the report, increase of illegal LPG consumption in
transportation vehicles and rising costs of LPG`s distribution are
the main reasons for this decision.
Currently, just 16 LPG stations are in operation across the
country, while there are also unknown numbers of illegal stations
which supply LPG for vehicles, the report said.
The Iranian government has decided to raise the number of LPG
stations as gasoline consumption has recently increased.
For now, LPG has a 5 percent share in the fuel basket of cars in
Iran.
Iran is currently producing 12.5 million liters of LPG per day, up
from nine million liters in 2005, Press TV quoted Iranian Deputy
Oil Minister, Alireza Zeighami as saying on April 14.
The country has become self-sufficient in the production of
LPG.
