TAP creates favourable conditions for gas transport to Switzerland – official
By Gulgiz Dadashova
The selection of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project as a route to deliver the Azerbaijani gas to Europe creates favourable conditions for the transport of gas to Switzerland, President of Azerbaijan's energy giant Rovnag Abdullayev said at a meeting with President of the Council of States of the Swiss Confederation Filippo Lombardi in Baku.
Lombardi, in turn, praised the selection of TAP as a route to supply Azerbaijani gas to Europe and wished success for this project's implementation.
The consortium developing Azerbaijan's giant Shah Deniz gas field in the Caspian Sea on June 28 announced that the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) had been selected to transport Shah Deniz gas to Europe.
Thus, TAP left behind the rival Nabucco West project. As is reported, Shah Deniz is expected to make its final investment decision by December 2013 and TAP is expected to make its final investment decision until then.
The TAP pipeline will collect Azerbaijani gas on the border of Greece and Turkey and carry it across Greece and Albania before reaching southern Italy, stretching 870 kilometers. Construction of TAP is expected to start in 2015.
