Azeri gas flows in Georgian region
Azerbaijani and Georgian Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Mikheil Saakashvili on Tuesday attended a ceremony of supplying Azerbaijan's gas to the neighboring South Caucasus republic.
President Aliyev, who attended the ceremony in Batumi on the initiative of his counterpart, termed it as "an indicator of present-day relations" between the two countries.
The two leaders visited a household in the Georgian town which received Azerbaijani gas for the first time.
"The fact that we have been able to implement such a significant project over such a short term proves our friendship. We are working to ensure deliveries to all the other regions of Georgia that are not supplied with gas. I am confident that Azerbaijani gas will reach there soon," Aliyev said, adding that his country was increasing supplies to its neighbor.
Saakashvili regarded the development as a manifestation of friendly ties between the Azerbaijani and Georgian people.
President Aliyev, who is in Georgia to attend a summit of the regional group GUAM, met with President Saakashvili at the Baokvati government residence on the same day. The heads of state welcomed the successfully developing bilateral relations and their expansion in a number of fields, expressing confidence in their further broadening. They also underscored the importance of the high-level event under way in Batumi and the strengthening Azerbaijani-Georgian cooperation within international organizations.
