SOCAR to transport first batch of chemical products from Georgia terminal
SOCAR will transport the first batch of chemical products through its own Kulevi oil terminal in Georgia later on Tuesday, a source on the oil and gas market told Trend news agency.
The source said that a tanker with over 1,900 tons will be shipped from Kulevi terminal.
"The products in the form of butane-butylene fraction are intended for the petrochemical complex Petkim," the source said.
The source added that the chemical products, including propylene, will be shipped on a regular basis.
The monthly volume of chemical product transportation via Kulevi terminal is expected to hit 4,500 tons.
Chemical product transportation through SOCAR's Kulevi oil terminal will be possible thanks to a new propylene transportation complex at the oil terminal in Kulevi.
The complex includes compressors, transformers, a nitric station and a pier to supply polypropylene. The production at the terminal will be loaded directly from railway tankers into gas carriers.
Kulevi terminal was put into operation in summer 2008. Its total capacity is 10 million tons of oil per year, including 3 million tons of oil, 3 million tons of diesel fuel, and 4 million tons of fuel oil.
The terminal can accommodate up to 168 tank cars. The tank farm's total volume is 320,000 cubic meters with the possibility of increasing to 380,000 cubic meters.
