Turkey may up Azeri gas imports over pipeline explosion

Turkish state pipeline company Botas is considering an increase of natural gas imports from Azerbaijan due to an explosion which occurred at night on a pipeline transporting gas from Iran to Turkey, a source at Botas told Trend news agency on Friday.

The source said that Turkey has already increased gas imports from Russia.

PKK militants detonated at night a section of the main pipe of the Iranian-Turkish gas pipeline to the Turkish province of Agri.

Around 27 million cubic meters of natural gas were daily supplied from Iran to Turkey through this gas pipeline.

According to the statistical data of Botas, Turkey imported 39.7 billion cubic meters of gas in 2011. Russia ranks first among gas exporters to Turkey, followed by Iran and Azerbaijan.
