Turkey hopes for successful construction of TANAP gas link

Turkey hopes for successful construction of the Trans-Anatolian pipeline (TANAP) to supply gas from Azerbaijan's giant Shah Deniz field to Europe across its territory, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was quoted by Azerbaijani state news agency AzerTac as saying.

"This project has led the energy cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan to a qualitatively new level," Davutoglu, who attended the summit of Economic Cooperation Organization held in Baku on Tuesday, told journalists.

The minister said the Azerbaijani-Turkish project will bring significant economic benefits to both countries.

Earlier it was announced that the project implementation is planned for 2016-2017. Construction work on TANAP is due to start next year.

The agreement on the project was signed in Istanbul in late June. TANAP will carry about 16 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas, of which 6 bcm will reach Turkey`s market, while the rest will be transported to European markets. SOCAR has 80 per cent in TANAP, while Turkey's BOTAS holds a 20 per cent stake in the project.
