The Kazakh capital Astana is hosting a meeting of the World Petroleum Council (WPC), according to Director General of Kazenergy Association Dzhambulat Sarsenov.

"The whole team of national committees, representatives of about 60 national committees -- participants of the World Petroleum Council -- came to our country [to attend the event]," Sarsenov told Azerbaijan's Trend news agency.

"The Oil Council [meeting] in Astana is a serious event," he said. "As a rule, the venue which hosts the Oil Council also hosts the World Petroleum Congress. This is our first visit to the country to study its possibilities."

After the meeting, which ends Wednesday, a WPC delegation headed by President of the organization Renato Bertani will attend the VII Eurasian forum KAZENERGY, being held in Astana on Tuesday and Wednesday.
