TAP prepares for Italian surveys along pipe route
Trans Adriatic Pipeline project prepares for Italian surveys along the proposed pipeline route, TAP reported.
According to TAP, the initial survey will conduct resistivity analysis around the landfall area, which will be used to identify and assess the presence of any hollow areas beneath the soil surface to ensure safe construction of the pipeline.
The work will be carried out by the TAP project with the support of the sub-contractor D'Appolonia, an Italian leader in engineering.
TAP plans to conduct additional onshore and offshore surveys later in the fall.
TAP, which is one of the projects within the Southern Gas Corridor, is designed to transport gas from the Caspian region via Greece and Albania and across the Adriatic Sea to southern Italy and further into western Europe. Gas to be produced during the second stage of Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas condensate field development is the main supply source for the project.
TAP's initial capacity will be 10 billion cubic metres per year, expandable to 20 billion cubic meters. TAP's shareholders are EGL of Switzerland (42.5 percent), Norway's Statoil (42.5 percent) and E.ON Ruhrgas of Germany (15 percent).
TAP's Italian section will consist of a 5 km onshore and 45 km offshore pipeline, stretching to a Pipeline Receiving Terminal in the province of Lecce. TAP will tie-in with the Italian gas network, operated by Snam Rete Gas.
