Serbia seeks to join AGRI project
Serbia has expressed its interest to participate in the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania-Hungary Interconnector (AGRI) project, which envisages transportation of Azerbaijani liquefied gas to European markets, Serbian Ambassador in Baku Zoran Vayovich has said.
He told journalists in Baku Monday that Serbia was ready to participate in any project on gas transportation to the Balkans.
Vayovich also said Azerbaijan is a key player in the gas market in the region and the whole world.
The participants in the AGRI project are Azerbaijan’s state energy firm Socar, the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, Hungary’s MVM company and Romania’s Romgaz.
The project envisions transporting Azerbaijani gas by a pipeline to the Black Sea coast of Georgia where it will be liquefied at an LNG terminal. Further, the LNG will be transported by tankers to the Romanian port of Constanta and then, in the form of natural gas, will be supplied to customers in Romania and other European countries.
Three capacity options of the AGRI project are being considered - 2 billion cubic meters of gas per year, 5 billion cubic meters and 8 billion cubic meters. According to preliminary data, depending on the project capacity, its cost will vary from 1.2 billion to 4.5 billion euros.
