Socar building new oil platform in the Caspian
Azerbaijan’s state oil company Socar plans to complete until the end of 2012 the construction of a new offshore platform in the shallow part of the Gunashli field, which is part of the country’s giant Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block of oil fields in the Caspian Sea, the company said Friday.
The platform is designed to drill four oil and eight gas wells and will be installed at the depth of 140-150 meters. A drilling rig designed in China, a helipad, a fire station, a control and management system and other required equipment will be installed on the platform.
Also, the platform will be equipped with two ship cranes, a 42-seat rescue boat of tanker type and a number of life rafts holding 10 persons each.
The platform will be resistant to 9.0 magnitude earthquakes.
