Statoil seeks to expand ops in Azerbaijan

Norwegian energy giant Statoil is seeking to expand operations in Azerbaijan’s gas sector and is interested in the development of newly found fields and discovery of new deposits in the resource-rich country, the Azerbaijani energy ministry said in a statement.

Top Statoil officials announced the plans in their meeting with Energy Minister Natig Aliyev in Baku on Tuesday.

The Statoil delegation visiting the Azerbaijani capital includes Peter Mellbye, Statoil’s Executive Vice President for Development and Production International, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President Torgrim Reitan and Statoil Azerbaijan President Lars Troen Sorensen.

Statoil is involved in such major energy projects in the South Caucasus republic as development of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block of oil fields and the Shahdaniz gas field in the Caspian Sea.
