Socar says holds 50 pct share in Georgia’s oil market

Azerbaijani state energy firm Socar holds a 50 percent share in Georgia’s oil products market, the company’s head was quoted by Interfax Azerbaijan news agency as saying.

Rovnag Abdullayev also said Socar supplies over 30 Georgian regions with gas through Socar Energy Georgia, its subsidiary company in the neighboring country.

Abdullayev said 6 million tons of cargo per year is transported through Georgia’s Kulevi oil terminal, which is owned and operated by Socar.

"This brings revenues not only to Azerbaijan but also [other] regional countries," he said. "Not only oil and oil products produced in Azerbaijan but also oil extracted at the Tengiz field in Kazakhstan is exported through the terminal."

Abdullayev said further that Socar accessed Ukraine and Romania’s retail fuel sales markets in 2010. 13 Socar gas-filling stations are operating in Ukraine and 14 in Romania.

The Socar president also said Switzerland-based Socar Trading company is expanding its operations.

"The company is providing services to more than 30 foreign clients," he added.
