BTC exports down 9 pct
BAKU – About 2.8 million tons of Azerbaijani oil were transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export pipeline in June 2011, 8.9 percent below the same period of last year, according to the state oil company Socar.
In January-June, over 17 million tons were transported through the pipeline, a 6.5 pct reduction in comparison with the first half of 2010.
Also, nearly 168,600 tons of Tukmenistan’s oil were transported in June 2011.
A total of 160.5m tons of crude have been pumped into the pipeline since it was commissioned in 2006.
The 1768 km conduit transports oil produced from Azerbaijan’s Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil block in the Caspian Sea. The BP-operated pipeline allows up to one million barrels of oil a day to be exported from the Caspian without increasing tanker traffic through the crowded Turkish Straits.
