Over 145m tons of oil exported via BTC to date

BAKU – Some 145.6 million tons of oil has been exported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline since its commissioning, Chairman of the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee Arif Veliyev said in his speech at a scientific symposium on the topic "Development of independent Azerbaijan in figures".

The BTC pipeline opened in 2006. The 1,768 km conduit transports oil produced from Azerbaijan’s Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block in the Caspian Sea. The pipeline allows up to one million barrels of oil a day to be exported from the Caspian without increasing tanker traffic through the crowded Turkish Straits.

BTC shareholders include BP (30.1%), SOCAR (25%), Chevron (8.9%), Statoil (8.71%), TPAO (6.53%), ENI (5%), Total (5%), Itochu (3.40%), Inpex (2.5%), ConocoPhillips (2.5%) and Hess (2.36%).

Veliyev also said 16.3 billion cubic meters of gas was exported via Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline since its commissioning.

Gas produced at gas-condensate field Shah Deniz in Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is transported through this pipeline. Gas is supplied to Georgia and Turkey.
