BAKU – Bentec GmbH, the leading manufacturer of high quality drilling rig systems, and a part of the KCA Deutag Group, has sold three 500-ton Bentec top drives (TD-500-HTs) within two months. This brings the number sold since launch in spring 2010 to nine in total, demonstrating strong customer endorsement, KCA Deutag said Monday.

The top drives will go into rig operations in areas of the world that present operational challenges due to their extremely harsh environments, such as east Siberia and desert regions, and will also comply with strict certification requirements in Europe. The most recent sale, to ultimate customer Rosneft in Russia, will go into operation on Sakhalin Island where temperatures can fall as low as -55°C.

The TD-500-HT comes with a number of innovative features to significantly improve drilling results. With up to 25 per cent higher performance than comparable units and a new control system, the Bentec top drive reduces downtime and maintenance costs significantly. Newly developed link tilt mechanisms set new standards in the area of safety.

The TD-500-HT and its equivalent 350-ton model will be followed by a 250-ton model by the end of the year and a 650-ton model or heavier in due course.
