BAKU – 34.2 million tons of Azerbaijan’s oil were transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export pipeline in January-November 2010.

A total of 140.8m tons of crude has been pumped into the conduit as of December 1, according to the state oil company SOCAR.

Also, the pipeline transported 1.06m tons of Turkmenistan’s oil this year.

The volume of Azerbaijani oil exported to world markets from the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan so far amounts to 138.7m tons, SOCAR said.

The BP-operated BTC pipeline was opened in 2006. The 1,768 km conduit transports oil produced from Azerbaijan’s Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil block in the Caspian Sea. The pipeline allows up to one million barrels of oil a day to be exported from the Caspian without increasing tanker traffic through the crowded Turkish Straits.
