EU in ‘intense talks’ with Azerbaijan on Nabucco project

STRASBOURG – European Union is holding intense talks with Azerbaijan on the Nabucco gas pipeline project, head of the EU delegation to the country, Roland Kobia, has said.

"Hard work is underway in this respect. Though the talks are not always high-profile, the main thing is that they are ongoing. And the Nabucco project remains on the agenda."

Reuters recently reported that due to delays in talks with Azerbaijan, the Nabucco project has been postponed until 2012.

Azerbaijan is one of the potential suppliers for the Nabucco pipeline, which is to pump gas from the Caspian and Central Asia regions to European markets, easing the EU’s reliance on Russian imports. The gas would be shipped to Europe via Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.
