Turkey’s Erdogan warns against delays in Nabucco project

ISTANBUL – Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned against delays in the Nabucco gas pipeline project, saying "every passing day is against" it, Turkish media reported.
Addressing a Black Sea energy and economics forum in Istanbul, Erdogan voiced Ankara’s disappointment that agreement on the Nabucco project has yet to be reached.
"We are ready to provide any support for the project. But, currently, we are merely hearing talk about its implementation and are seeing very little action."
Erdogan said Nabucco will play an important role in ensuring energy security in the region, noting that an agreement on supporting the project is due to be signed in October.
"We do believe that the project will be realized," Erdogan added.
The Nabucco pipeline project aims to decrease the European Union’s dependence on Russian imports by bringing Caspian gas to a hub in Austria via the Balkans. The gas would be shipped to Europe via Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.
