Washington energy summit due Thursday

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 2010 Washington Energy Summit, titled, "Securing the World’s Energy Needs with a Practical Mix of Traditional and Alternative Fuels," will be held at the Washington Hilton, on Thursday.

The conference will examine the intersection between energy policies, resources and technologies from a global perspective. It will focus on the need to accommodate both fossil and renewable fuels, balancing support for vital traditional fuels with encouragement of promising alternatives.

Conference participants will debate realistic expectations for energy supplies in the future and suggest policies that will assure global energy security.

In addition to examining the full range of energy options, the Energy Summit will look at international energy sources, production capacities, distribution networks, and the interface of the world energy industries with their U.S. counterparts as well as Azerbaijan’s important role in the region as energy supplier, oil spill in the Mexican Gulf.

U.S. and foreign government officials, Members of Congress, energy industry executives, environmentalists, advocacy association leaders, academics, and journalists will discuss the various aspects of energy security at the Washington Energy Summit. Keynote speakers will include world leaders who have direct involvement in setting national and, in many respects, global energy policies.

Delegates from Azerbaijan and Ukraine are the only representatives among post-soviet republics.
