RWE offers to link Greece-Italy, Nabucco pipelines
BERLIN – Germany’s RWE Supply & Trading has offered to link the planned Greece-Italy (IGI) and Nabucco pipelines in the coming years, an RWE official said Thursday.
Jeremy Ellis, head of business development at the company, told an international gas conference in Baku that Nabucco is more beneficial that other gas supply projects to be implemented in Europe. Thus, Nabucco enjoys the European Union’s backing, and a 50-year inter-governmental agreement on the project is in place.
"Also, it is possible to link the IGI pipeline to Nabucco. In doing so, we have to link directly to the pipeline, without using Turkey’s gas infrastructure. As a result, we will save up to 25% on transit fees."
Ellis spoke of work underway on four pipeline projects that will deliver gas to Europe – Nabucco, White Stream, Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and Turkey-Greece-Italy (ITGI) conduit, which are part of the Southern Energy Corridor. He said about 25 billion euros will be required to implement the projects, and the most implortant issue was filling all these pipelines with gas.
