Azerbaijan has 3.5trln cu. m. of gas: SOCAR
BAKU – Azerbaijan’s gas reserves are projected at 3.5 trillion cubic meters, an official of the state energy firm SOCAR has said.
Kamal Abbasov said the country’s gas production presently amounts to 27 billion cubic meters a year. The figure includes both gas produced from Phase 1 of developing Azerbaijan’s giant Shahdaniz field in the Caspian Sea and SOCAR’s fuel.
Abbasov said gas output will surge during Phase 2 of Shahdaniz development. Also, there are other gas deposits discovered in the Caspian, he said, adding that work was underway to develop those finds.
The Shahdaniz field, which holds estimated reserves of 2 trillion cubic meters, produces most of Azerbaijan’s gas. Phase 2 of the project is expected to begin in 2012-2013.
