Gazprom boosts gas supplies to Turkey

MOSCOW – Gazprom is consistently increasing its natural gas supplies to Turkish consumers via the Blue Stream gas pipeline, official spokesman for the Russian energy holding Sergei Kupriyanov was quoted by RBC as saying on Monday.

As of August 28, 2010, the daily gas supply amounted to 42m cubic meters.

Turkey is currently experiencing problems with gas supplies due to a recent explosion on the pipeline that supplies gas to the country from Iran. Right after the explosion, Russia boosted its supplies to 37m cubic meters, nearly doubling the amount. "For the first time in recent years, Gazprom has increased the daily amount of supplied gas in response to Turkey's difficulties in obtaining gas from other sources. Our company is ready to sustain supplies at their current level for as long as necessary," Kupriyanov stated.

Meanwhile, gas supplies to Turkey have been increasing in recent months, demonstrating the country's gradual economic rehabilitation.
