EBRD explores combustion of associated petroleum gas in Azerbaijan
BAKU - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) began studying the combustion of associated petroleum gas (APG) in Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
EBRD said in its statement on Wednesday that the overall aim of its assignment is to identify the most appropriate technical solutions for the use of APG in the Bank's CoO and to prepare a pipeline of bankable projects.
The bank said the expressions of interest to the research are accepted by the EBRD office in London until September 18.
According to EBRD, in certain CoO, especially in Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, there is a significant amount of APG that is flared, incinerated or even vented. Russia alone, which is the largest APG flaring country in the world, at the moment, is officially estimated to flare more than 20 billion Nm3 of gas, while there are reports that the actual figure is more than double.
By providing the proposed services the bank said it will acquire a deeper understanding of the main issues related to the minimization of gas flaring in the CoO and will also be able to help its clients identify the most appropriate solutions for the use of APG in terms of resource efficiency and overall performance as well as environmental impacts.
