Swiss envoy sees good prospects for energy co-op with Azerbaijan

BAKU - Swiss Ambassador to Azerbaijan Alan Gidetti has said the energy cooperation plays a key role in the development of bilateral cooperation.

Speaking at the official ceremony to celebrate the Independence Day of the Swiss Confederation in Baku on Monday, Gidetti said his country backs the project on Azeri gas delivery to European markets, and, particularly, the Trans-Adriatic pipeline project.

He said the project allows the Azeri gas transportation at favorable conditions, both economic and technical.

Swiss ambassador also vowed his country’s support to Azerbaijan’s development.

"Switzerland will always back all important efforts aimed at the sustainable development of Azerbaijan.

"Over 19 years of diplomatic relations, strong friendship has been established between our countries and political, economic and cultural ties have been strengthened to a large extent," he said.

Switzerland has developed economic cooperation with Azerbaijan in non-oil industries as well.

The Swiss Holcim Company, the first foreign investor in non-oil industry, is one of the major players in Azerbaijan’s economy.

Azeri Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev pointed out that the relations between the two countries have entered a new stage of development in recent years. Switzerland became actively involved in tourism development in Azerbaijan.
