Iran resumes gas exports to Turkey

31 July 2010 17:32 (UTC+04:00)

TEHRAN – Iran announced that it would resume gas exports to Turkey on Saturday after a 10-day halt which occurred due to some technical problems in the recipient country.

"Iran's gas exports to Turkey will resume today before noon," Manager of Iran's Eighth Zone of Gas Transfer Operations Valiollah Dini told Fars news agency on Saturday.

"Turkish officials announced their preparedness to restart the gas transfer operations yesterday. Hence, gas exports to Turkey will be resumed at 10:00 am today," Dini added.

Iran stopped gas pump to Turkey on July 21, 2:00 am following a request by Turkey.

The Turkish side blamed technical problems for their request to halt the gas imports but some reports suggested that part of Iran-Turkey gas pipeline which lies in the Turkish territory was exploded.

Dini also confirmed the Turkish officials' announcement that the suspension in the transfer of gas supplies took place due to technical problems.

Iran sends 23 million cubic meters of gas to Turkey daily since March 20.
