Russia pays most for gas to Azerbaijan: paper
Russian gas monopoly Gazprom will reportedly charge $210 per 1,000 cubic meters this year for countries "loyal to Russia". For other countries, the prices could be higher, for instance, for Georgia, it amounts to $270, Russia’s RBК Daily newspaper reported, referring to Gazprom’s budget.
As for gas imports, Russia is buying its cheapest gas from Uzbekistan – for $220. The price is almost the same for gas imports from Turkmenistan and stands at $222. The country imports 13 billion cubic meters of gas from Uzbekistan annually, while its purchases from the other Central Asian state amount to 10bn cubic meters.
Gazprom buys its most expensive gas from Azerbaijan, which charges it $244.5, according to RBК Daily. The volume of imports from the South Caucasus republic is 500 million cubic meters a year.
This bulk of the purchases was stipulated in the contract signed by Gazprom and Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, but the maximum volume of imported gas was not indicated, and the sides have already agreed to double the figure. Moreover, Gazprom has offered to buy all the gas Azerbaijan can offer. The RBК Daily report said the proposal aims to prevent Azerbaijani gas from flowing into the rival Nabucco pipeline, an ambitious project that will deliver Azerbaijani and Central Asian gas to European markets.
Finally, Russia imports 9.3bn cubic meters of gas a year from Kazakhstan for $230.4 per 1,000 cubic meters.
A considerable bulk of Central Asian fuel – about 19bn cubic meters – will be exported to countries other than the former Soviet states, this year, while 13bn cubic meters will be exported to Ukraine and 0.4bn cubic meters to Georgia. The figures contradict Georgian officials’ statements saying Tbilisi is not importing Russian gas.
Russia sells gas for the cheapest prices to Belarus, charging $170, and Armenia, which pays $182. Moldova imports fuel for $240. European consumers are paying a much higher price - $375.5.*
