Azeri gov’t makes projections on Shahdaniz output
Shahdaniz, Azerbaijan’s largest gas field in the Caspian Sea, is expected to produce 8 billion cubic meters of gas in 2010, Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev has said.
According to him, 6.3bn cu. m. of the volume will be transported to Turkey, 1bn cu. m. to Russia, 0.3 bn cu. m. to Georgia, and 0.1bn cu. m. to Iran.
Azerbaijan’s overall gas production is forecast at 30bn cu. m. this year, the minister said.
In 2009, gas output made up 23bn cu. m., including 5.4bn cu. m. from Shahdaniz.
Aliyev said Azerbaijan was interested in the implementation of the Nabucco project and exporting its gas to European markets. Also, he said the South Caucasus republic is ready to deliver its liquefied gas to Bulgaria even before Phase 2 of Shahdaniz development.
First gas is predicted to be extracted under Phase 2 in 2016.
Rovnag Abdullayev, the president of Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR, said annual production at Shahdaniz is to be brought to 16bn cu. m. during the second stage. 30 production wells are to be drilled at the field for the purpose.
According to Abdullayev, Shahdaniz reserves have already been estimated and stand at 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas and over 240 million tons of condensate.*
