SOCAR opens filling stations in Baku
Gas-filling stations of Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR opened in the capital, Baku, on Friday.
The opening of the first three gas stations, located in the Bibiheybat settlement, off the Zykh highway and off the road leading to the airport, was attended by SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev.
Abdullayev told reporters that the company plans to commission seven more such facilities by the end of 2010 and ten more next year. This year, 20 million manats ($25 million) will be spent to build the gas stations. Each of the facilities will employ over 60 people.
Along with gasoline of AI-93 and AI-95 grades, AI-98 gas as well as Euro diesel fuel and liquefied gas will be sold.
"These stations will be selling fuel produced at SOCAR plants," Abdullayev said. "The quality of our diesel now meets European standards. The quality of gasoline is also high, and a transition will be made to the Euro-2 standard this year."
The gas-filling stations will operate under the SOCAR Petroleum subsidiary company.
So far, SOCAR has put into operation over 30 gas-filling stations in neighboring Georgia, with 30 more facilities due to open this year.
The Azerbaijani energy firm is also expanding its operation in Ukraine’s wholesale oil products market. Presently, SOCAR is making preparations to open 20 gas stations in this country under its brand. Sales of oil products at these facilities are expected to begin later this month.*
