8.8m tons of oil exported via BTC pipeline in three months: BP
A total of 65.7 million barrels of oil, or around 8.8 million tons,
was exported during the first quarter of 2010 via the
Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export pipeline pumping Caspian oil
to world markets, according to BP, the project operator.
Since June 4, 2006 up to the end of April 1128 tankers were loaded at the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan with a total of more than 887 million barrels, or about 118.8 million tons, of crude oil transported via BTC and sent to world markets.
During the first quarter BTC spent $3.5 million in capital expenditures and the full year plan is $69 million.
The 1,768 km conduit currently carries mainly oil produced from Azerbaijan’s Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) fields in the Caspian Sea and condensate from the country’s biggest gas field Shahdaniz. BTC also has ongoing agreements to carry oil from the Tengiz field in Kazakhstan. BTC’s throughput capacity is currently 1.2 million bpd.
Britain's BP Plc owns 30.1 percent of BTC, while Azeri state oil company SOCAR holds 25 percent. Other shareholders include US giants Chevron and ConocoPhillips, Norway's StatoilHydro, Italy's ENI and France's Total.*
