UK energy minister due in Baku Wed.
UK Energy Minister Lord Hunt is due to arrive in
Azerbaijan on Wednesday. During the half-day visit, he is expected
to meet only with Rovnag Abdullayev, the president of Azerbaijan’s
state energy firm SOCAR, according to the British embassy in
Baku.
Hunt has been on a visit to Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan since Sunday.
The minister has underscored Azerbaijan’s strategic role in Europe and termed it as a fast-growing country.
He noted that large-scale projects such as the development of Azerbaijan’s major Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) fields in the Caspian Sea and the offshore Shahdaniz gas field and launching the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export pipeline transporting ACG oil have turned the resource-rich South Caucasus republic into a major energy supplier.*
