SOCAR starts building its first platform
Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has started building a
technological platform for the first time, the company said.
The purpose of the operations is to maintain a stable level of production on the Gunashli field, developed independently by SOCAR. The platform is scheduled for commissioning in 2011.
This platform will be installed at the Gunashli field, which is part of the major Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) offshore oil fields, at the depth of 90 to 92 meters, 50 meters away from the existing platform Gunashli-4. The platforms will be connected by a pedestrian bridge.
The platform will consist of two blocks. The first block, which is 101 meters high and weighs 2,100 tons, will be built at Deep Water Jacket Factory named after Heydar Aliyev. The construction of this block will be completed by the end of this year, after which it will be sent to the sea for installation.
The second block weighs 3,000 tons. Its construction will be carried out by Oil and Gas Construction Trust on the basis of the unused bearing block Gunashli-20.
The two blocks are to sail away and be installed in January-February 2010. Topsides – a compressor station and the entire industrial infrastructure - will be designed and manufactured abroad.*
