Azerbaijan ready to supply oil for Ukrainian pipeline: envoy
Azerbaijan has confirmed its readiness to supply oil
for the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline seeking to pump crude from the
Caspian Sea to Europe bypassing Russia, the Ukrainian Ambassador to
Belarus, Igor Likhovyi, has said.
Likhovyi said the issue of delivering Caspian oil to the Baltic states as part of the project has been drawing international attention.
According to the ambassador, Kyiv has offered to consider Belarus` joining the project as well, and Minsk is reviewing the proposal.
The Odessa-Brody pipeline was one of Ukraine`s most ambitious projects since independence in 1991. Built in 2002 and designed to carry Caspian oil to Europe with a capacity of up to 14 million tons per year, or 280,000 bpd, the pipeline stood idle for two years and was reversed in 2004 to ship Russian oil.
The conduit, which links the Ukrainian cities of Odessa at the Black Sea and Brody near the Ukrainian-Polish border, could serve as an additional route to deliver Azeri oil to Europe.
Azerbaijan produces most of its oil from the major Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields in the Caspian Sea. The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export pipeline is transporting ACG oil.
