Iran to launch Caspian oil drilling mid-May
Iran will launch drilling at oil fields in the
Caspian Sea on May 15, local media quoted the managing director of
the country`s North Drilling Company (NDC) as saying.
Asghar Rafiee said President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has issued orders to tackle the operations. In the initial stage, two exploration wells will be drilled, which will be followed by large-scale production.
Geologists from Azerbaijan, another Caspian littoral state, say the Iranian sector of the basin does not hold immense hydrocarbon reserves.
The Caspian is a source of huge hydrocarbon reserves and valuable caviar stocks.
