Minister rules out Moscow`s pressure over Nabucco
Russia has not put any pressure on Azerbaijan to
reject providing gas supplies for the European Union-funded Nabucco
pipeline, according to Natig Aliyev, Azerbaijani Minister of
Industry and Energy.
Aliyev told Bulgaria`s Darik Radio, during a two-day summit dedicated to Europe`s natural gas supplies held in Sofia last week, that the resource-rich South Caucasus republic could provide 8 billion cubic meters of gas a year for the pipeline in the initial stage. He added, however, that no agreement has yet been signed.
According to the minister, Azerbaijan could annually export 16bn cu. m. of gas, with half of the volume earmarked for Nabucco.
The 8 billion euro project plans to deliver about 30 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani and Central Asian gas per year to European markets through Azerbaijan and Turkey, while bypassing Russia.
