Eurogas: Gas consumption in EU countries to rise by 6%
By Trend
Gas consumption in EU member states (EU-28) is expected to
increase by 6 percent in 2016, as compared to 2015, according to
the latest estimates from Eurogas, the association representing the
European gas wholesale, retail and distribution sectors.
This rise is partly due to increased demand for gas in power
generation following signs of revival in industrial activity, as
well as greater use of gas in transport, according to the estimates
published on the website of Eurogas.
Initial estimates for 2016, published by Eurogas, suggest that gas
consumption in the EU-28 was 447.1 billion cubic meters. These
latest estimates are the result of an annual survey covering
approximately 85 percent of the EU gas market and carried out by
Eurogas.
One important factor for this rise is the increased use of gas in
power generation in a number of countries such as France, Germany,
Italy and the Netherlands, according to the association.
“In France, for example, gas demand in this sector doubled in the
first half of the year, compared with the same period last year,”
said Eurogas. “In Germany, several new gas fired power plants have
started to operate due to the competitive price.”
